Container & Potting Mix for Organic Growing

Promotes healthy and optimal growth of flowers, vegetables and fruits grown in containers.

18 kg / 56.6 L

Plants grown in containers have access to less water and nutrients than those grown in the ground. Our organic mix provides a healthy, nutrient-rich and well-aerated environment for optimal plant growth. Its formula contains 30% organic matter, including compost and sphagnum peat moss, and mycorrhizae for bigger plants and a more bountiful harvest.

Why use Schultz Container & Potting Mix for Organic Growing

  • Perfect for organic growing, it provides a healthy environment for growing fruits, vegetables and herbs.
  • It contains compost and 30% organic matter to provide your plants with essential nutrients.
  • It contains mycorrhizae for optimal growth of stronger, healthier plants.
  • Contains Canadian sphagnum peat moss and sand for an aerated texture, excellent drainage and optimal water retention.

How to use the potting mix

Step 1Choose a pot with drainage holes.

Step 2Moisten the soil and fill 1/3 or 1/2 of the pot.

Step 3Place the plant in the pot. If the roots are tangled, spread them out so they can expand in the new pot.

Step 4Add soil up to the crown of the plant, leaving a space of about 1 inch without soil to facilitate watering. Compress lightly.

Step 5Water until it comes out of the drainage holes.

Expert tips

  • Water frequently. In summer, potted plants exposed to the sun may need watering twice a day. To check if watering is necessary, insert your finger into the soil. If the top 5 to 10 centimetres are dry, it's time to water.
  • Ideally, water early in the morning to avoid evaporation.
  • For productive plants (annual flowers and edible plants), fertilize your pots weekly with Schultz All Purpose Fertilizer.
  • If you use pot covers or saucers, always empty any excess water to prevent root rot.

FAQ

All you need to know for dazzling plants!

Why use organic soil?

Organic potting soil not only allows you to grow edible plants (vegetables, herbs and fruits) without chemicals, but it is also the best choice for the planet.

What is the role of mycorrhizae?

Mycorrhizae help improve soil and plant health by promoting maximum nutrient absorption. Plants grow faster and become stronger and more resilient.

Can you grow herbs together in the same pot?

This is not only a practical idea, but also a beneficial one. Opt for companion plants. You can also combine flowers, provided they have the same needs in terms of water, nutrients and sunlight. Only mint should be grown alone in its pot because it is invasive and leaves no room for competition.

Do you need to water outdoor potted plants every day?

Watering isn't always necessary. Test the soil first with your finger. If it's still damp, wait until later to water. However, if the plant is growing in full sun, don't wait until the next day without checking again.

What to do about watering if I’m going away for a few days?

If no one else can water your plants, move your pots to a shady spot while you're away. This is your best chance of finding your plants in good condition when you return. You can also use automatic watering systems or self-watering solutions like ceramic watering cones, which are similar to drip irrigation systems. You can even make your own using plastic water bottles. Cut off the bottom, push the neck into the soil and fill the bottle with water.
