Expert tips

  • Wait until the new blades have reached a height of 7 cm (3 in) before mowing.
  • Wait until after the third mowing before applying herbicide.
  • 6 to 8 weeks after the new blades have appeared, begin fertilizing with Schultz Lawn Fertilizer.
  • When repairing a bare patch or thickening your lawn, always spread a thin layer of enriched lawn soil. It will be easier for the seed to establish in loose soil, and the nutrients provided will feed both the new blades and the existing grass.

FAQ

All you need to know for a stunning lawn!

What is the best time to sow grass seed in Canada?

Late summer and fall are the best times for sowing and reseeding. The nights are cooler, and the soil is still warm. These conditions promote optimal germination rates and deep root development. Spring is also a good time, but you must wait until the temperature has warmed up and the ground has thawed.

Why isn't my grass growing?

Have you just sown your lawn and it's not growing? Not all lawn grasses germinate at the same rate. They need time. You also need to make sure you've met certain conditions: plant in well-aerated, nutrient-rich soil at the right time of year (if the soil temperature is below 10 °C, the seed remains dormant) and water daily with a fine spray to keep the seed moist until germination.

Which grass seed should I choose for sowing?

Grass seed blends are perfect to achieve optimal results since the different lawn grasses combine the desired qualities: rapid germination, thickness, vibrant colour, tolerance to cold and drought.

Why choose sun and shade grass seed?

Sun and shade grass seed combines lawn grasses that thrive in different light conditions. They save you from complications, especially since sunlight can vary depending on the season or time of day.
