Expert tips

  • Always water at the base of the plant (avoid wetting the leaves). If the plant completely covers the soil, immerse the pot in a bath of water and allow the soil to absorb the water through the drainage holes.
  • After watering, allow the pot to drain. Never leave water in the saucer. Cacti and succulents are susceptible to root rot.
  • Avoid overwatering. If the soil dries out too quickly or retains too much water (it remains soggy like a sponge), repot your plant in a potting mix specifically formulated for cacti and succulents.
  • Always use the recommended amount when fertilizing. In winter, stop fertilizing or reduce the amount by half.
  • Have you just repotted your plant? Stop fertilizing for the first few weeks to give the roots the time to establish.
  • Before watering or fertilizing your plant, make sure the top 7.5 cm of soil are completely dry.
  • For succulents grown outdoors, use 4 droppers per 3.8 L of water at each watering.

FAQ

We have simple answers to all your questions!

How do I know if my cactus needs fertilizer?

All plants need fertilization to thrive. Our Cactus Liquid Plant Food 2-7-7 will precisely provide all the nutrients your plant needs. Never more, never less.

How can I tell if my cactus has received too much fertilizer?

An overfertilized cactus can become deformed, lose its vibrant colour and develop soft, swollen stems, as well as brown tips. In addition to providing your cactus with all the nutrients it needs, our fertilizer is so easy to measure that it eliminates any risk of overfertilization.

What do the letters N-P-K and the numbers on a fertilizer bag or box mean?

The numbers indicate the proportions of the three essential nutrients in a fertilizer formula: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K).

(N – nitrogen): promotes foliage health and growth.

(P – phosphorus): supports root development and the production of flowers and fruit.

(K – potassium): helps grow stronger, more resilient plants.

How often should cacti be fertilized?

Fertilize your cacti with our specialty fertilizer every time you water them. It will provide all the nutrients they need. Stop fertilizing from September to March, during the plants' dormant period.

Do succulents always need to be fertilized?

Succulents should be fertilized during their growing period in spring and summer. The nutrients in potting soil don't last forever. Your plant needs to be fed properly, which is why our specialty fertilizer has been formulated to provide all the nutrients it needs.

How can I tell if my succulent has received too much fertilizer?

A succulent that has received too much fertilizer may turn yellow or wilt, have limp lower leaves, or burnt, brown or dry tips. Our 7 drops formula eliminates all risk of overfertilizing. If you have used the correct amount, make sure your plant hasn't been overwatered and that you are providing the conditions it needs.

Which plants are considered succulents?
